Evelyn Thomas is a veteran of the Army National Guard and the U.S. Marine CoEvelyn Thomas is a veteran of the Army National Guard and the U.S. Marine Corps. She is an honorably discharged combat veteran, and she served in the military prior to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT). She served during the “ban of homosexuals” in the military and was read her Miranda Rights, and was isolated from other female and male Marines. As a result of the tragic death of Seaman August Provost, Thomas decided to take action and founded The Sanctuary Project Veterans. Thomas and the Sanctuary Project Veterans were a part of “The Boot Drop” in Senator Webb’s senate office, the only activist action to result in changing a Senator’s vote for the repeal of DADT.
